Research Background
CHIAT
research and project staff began their PACE and other research work
in 1990 at San Diego State University (SDSU) and have continued the
line of research at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
It is the basic and formative research conducted at SDSU and UCSD that
has laid some of the groundwork for subsequent translational research,
and more recently, commercialization of new PACE products and services
by the Center for Health Interventions and Technology, LLC.
CHIAT research scientists have experience in developing paper-based
tools (manuals and protocols for providers, manuals and tip sheets for
teens and adults, manuals and tip sheets for parents), telephone-based
intervention development and delivery, Internet and cell phone intervention
development and delivery, use of technologies such as accelerometers,
pedometers and GPS, and development of electronic research measurement
tools.
- Current Research Focus Areas
- Web & e-mail supported behavioral interventions
- Cell-phone for behavioral monitoring and intervention
- Wearable technologies for energy balance (e.g.
pedometer)
